Current Amphibious Cars
The idea of amphibious vehicles brings to mind the likes of the famous and imaginary “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” vehicle – vehicles that have the ability to travel both on land and water – has been around for quite some time. In fact, the amphibious cars were first introduced over a century ago, and they are still being manufactured today.
The aptly named amphibious car is derived in both name and theory from the word amphibian, a living creature that can travel and survive on land and in water. Since the 1920’s, various manufacturers have attempted to design a practical amphibious car that is as close to mother’s nature’s amphibian creatures as possible, boasting the ability to operate and maneuver on both land and water with equal ease. Over the course of time, amphibious vehicle design has been examined as a recreational vehicle as well as a practical and purposeful form of transportation. The common, yet somewhat extravagant and extreme, driver seeks a recreational vehicle that maneuvers well on land and features the entertaining and enjoyable aspect of having the ability to travel on water too. More serious applications of an amphibious car include military use, search and rescue missions, and use as a vehicle that will transport the driver and passengers to and from lands where there are no connecting bridges or roads.
During the 1960’s, the Amphicar was introduced as a proficiently engineered amphibious car for recreational use. Approximately 4,000 Amphicars were produced, and a good portion of those still exist today, with a smaller portion still in working order and capable of travel on both land and water today.
The desire to travel in an amphibious car still exists today, as does the production of amphibious cars. Currently, there are several amphibious cars being produced in different countries. In the United States, the Hydra WaterCar features a sports car design, flotation foam, and a Corvette LS2 fuel injected engine, and the Spyder, similar in body design to the 2002 Camaro Convertible, features a turbo-charged 2.5 liter, 300 hp engine manufactured by Subaru. Both are well suited for recreational use. China offers those in search of an amphibious car, the JMC BY5020TSL and BJ5032 (XZHE), both with Jeep style chassis, and the JMC JX5021TLYDS, with a pickup style chassis. The Chinese versions of the amphibian car are well suited for military use, though their design also makes these amphibious cars complementary to other industries and professions such as water conservancy, environmental protection, and tourism.
The Water Car
The Water Car is a amphibian amphibious car that is able to drive on the roads as well as in the water. This is one of the first vehicles of this kind that is available to the public. Amphibious car opportunities have existed since World War II, but there has never been anything like the Water Car. The Water Car claims to be the world’s fastest amphibious car. With the ability to reach speeds of 125 miles per hour on the road and up to 40 miles per hour in the water, there aren’t many that are disputing the fact that this amphibian amphibious car is the fastest to date.
What Makes the World’s Fastest Car Special?
The great thing about this amphibious car is that it is durable and attractive, too! The Water Car is made out of fiberglass, and its body is styled after a 2002 convertible Camaro body. The car features a turbo charged 2.5-liter engine that provides 300 horsepower. The transmission in the vehicle is a Rancho Type 1-4 speed manual transmission, and the amphibious vehicle is fitted with four-wheel independent suspension and brakes with stainless steel rotors. This amphibious car offers something that all others don’t have, and that is a suspension that makes riding in the vehicle comfortable.
When the Water Car is driven into the water, all four wheels are pulled up hydraulically and extended to create the smoothest high-speed bottom. This design is what allows the vehicle to go up to 40 miles per hour in the water. The marine drive is a Berkley 12JE jet drive with a place diverter, which controls the ride, based on water conditions. The doors lock much like an aircraft, which allows the amphibious vehicle to be completely watertight. The amphibian amphibious car has one more special feature, a center mount ski pole that is great for wake boarding and skiing!
Who is the Amphibious Car For?
This amphibious car is a great choice for anyone who likes to speed down the highway in style and then take a trip to the lake. Getting a boat in the lake takes a lot of work, but when you have an amphibious car such as the Water Car, you can simply drive right in with the flip of a switch, and you never have to get out of your car. Anyone can order one of these cars, as they are completely street legal and they meet requirements for boating, as well.
